An analysis of large-scale X posts from Pakistani users during the war shows a clear dominance of pro-Iran narratives. Overall, 71.1% of users expressed support for Iran, compared to 11.9% opposing and around 17% remaining neutral.
This distribution suggests that, in Pakistani public discourse, Iran is not viewed merely as a regional actor. Instead, it symbolizes political independence and deterrence against external pressure. Support for Iran appears driven more by strategic and political perceptions than purely emotional or religious factors.
Why Do Pakistani Users Support Iran?
• Iran as a Source of Deterrence & Military Strength (59%)
Iran is seen as resisting U.S. and Israeli pressure without backing down, relying on domestic capabilities—an example of “national dignity” in the face of great powers.
• Iran as a Model of Strategic Autonomy (18%)
Support reflects dissatisfaction with Pakistan’s dependence on the U.S., alongside a preference for closer ties with Iran over Saudi Arabia, particularly in energy and defense—framing Iran as a model of strategic autonomy.
• Iran as a Symbol of Declining U.S. Dominance (10%)
Iran is portrayed as a symbol of weakening American influence, often accompanied by criticism or ridicule of Donald Trump.
• Islamic & Regional Solidarity with Iran (8%)
Support is framed as alignment with a broader regional and Islamic front against external pressure.
What Do Opponents of Iran Argue?

Iran is viewed as contributing to regional instability, with calls to contain its influence and push it toward negotiations.

The dominance of pro-Iran narratives indicates that themes such as deterrent power, independence from the West, and resistance to U.S. and Israeli pressure resonate more strongly with Pakistani online users than critical or security-based arguments. In this discourse, Iran is perceived by a majority not just as a country, but as a political model of resistance and strategic defiance.
